Claude certification without a partner company: what the gate checks and how to get past it
You cannot register for any Claude exam with a personal email. Anthropic admits only people from Claude Partner Network organizations, signed in with an email on a domain recognized on that partner's record. If your employer is not a partner, there are four routes: check again, bring the company in, work with a partner organization, or wait.
Anthropic's certification FAQ puts it in two sentences: certification is available to people at Claude Partner Network organizations, and personal email addresses will not work. The rule covers all four exams, Architect Foundations and Architect Professional included. It stops freelancers, people between jobs and engineers at companies that use Claude every day but never joined the network. Below: exactly what the gate checks, why it exists, and which routes lead past it.
What the gate checks
Registration runs through Anthropic Partner Academy, and at sign-in it checks two things:

- 1. Your organization is in the Claude Partner Network. A company that only buys Claude is a customer, not a partner, and it does not pass. The FAQ says it directly: certification is currently available only to organizations in the network.
- 2. Your email is on a domain recognized on that partner's record. Gmail, Outlook and iCloud fail here. So do subsidiary and regional domains the partner has not registered.
Fail the second check and you see this message: "You aren't signed in with a partner company employee email." If you do work at a partner and still see it, your domain is missing from the record. The fix is an email to partner-support@anthropic.com and 7 to 10 days of waiting. A certificate earned on an unrecognized domain does not count toward the firm's standing either, so fix the domain before the exam, not after.
Why Anthropic built the gate
The certification program was built for partners, not for the open market. It launched on 12 March 2026 together with the Claude Partner Network, and certified people count toward the tier of the firm they work for.
The tiers have hard thresholds. A firm reaches Select with at least 10 active certified people, Preferred with 100 and Global Premier with 1,000, plus deployed customers and public references. Active means holding a current certificate and having used Claude in the past 90 days. Associate is the one exam that does not count toward the tier.
That mechanism explains the demand for certified people better than any job board, and I follow it through in who hires Claude certified architects, with the numbers firms have committed to.
Joining the network costs nothing. Any organization that brings Claude to market can apply. A new firm starts at the Registered level and commits to at least 10 certified practitioners.
Four routes when your employer is not a partner
1. Check again. Large companies often join under a group domain, and every partner's standing is visible in the public directory of the Claude Partner Hub. Your local domain may simply be missing from the record. Ask whoever owns the Anthropic relationship before you decide there is none.
2. Bring your company into the network. Membership is free and open to any organization that brings Claude to market. Someone at the company has to apply, and the company commits to certify at least 10 people. For you this is the cheapest route and the slowest one, because it runs on the company's timetable.
3. Work with a partner organization. A job at a partner is the plain way in. We run our own route for consultants. The Certified AI Consultant Program is a collective of AI consultants. We verify every application, and members sit all four Anthropic exams through our partner organization.
4. Wait. The FAQ says "currently", which leaves the door open, but Anthropic has not published a date for public registration. Waiting costs nothing if nobody is asking you for the credential yet.

What to check before you pay anyone, including us
Paying an organization for access to an exam is a new kind of deal, so check it the way you would check any intermediary. Five questions:
- Who issues the certificate? It should be Anthropic, as a Credly badge in your name. A certificate belongs to the person, not to the firm, and Anthropic's terms say a partner cannot assign it to anyone else.
- Who takes the exam fee? Anthropic, at its published price, separately from any membership fee.
- Which email will you register under? Whatever the answer, add your personal email to your Credly profile. Anthropic recommends it, so the badge stays with you when the work email does not.
- Is the partner in good standing? The certification terms allow Anthropic to revoke a certificate if the partner is no longer in good standing with the program.
- What happens if you fail? You pay Anthropic again for the retake and the waiting periods apply. No intermediary can change that.

From registration to exam day
FIVE STEPS
- 1. Open your exam's page on Anthropic Partner Academy. The registration link and the exam guide are there. Read the guide first.
- 2. Sign in with the partner email and pay by card. The price at checkout already includes your firm's tier discount.
- 3. Wait for the Pearson VUE email and create your account there.
- 4. Book a slot online with a proctor (OnVUE) or at a Pearson test center. The registration stays valid for five years.
- 5. Bring a government ID with exactly the name you registered under. You must be 18 or older.
The exam is in English only, closed book, and browser translation is not allowed. You see your score on screen at the end, and a pass online usually brings the Credly email within minutes. What the two hours under a proctor feel like is in my account of sitting the architect exam.

Can I take a Claude certification exam with a personal email?

Does the certificate stay with me if I leave the company?
Yes. The certification belongs to the individual and moves with you. Anthropic recommends adding a personal email to your Credly profile so you keep access to the badge wherever you work.
How long does it take to add a company email domain?
Seven to ten days. Email partner-support@anthropic.com with the parent company domain and the other domains that should roll up to it, well before the planned exam date.
